Net-Surfing and Sewing Classes: Using your keyboard to find some old-school hands-on teaching.
Sometimes it is the more time-tested or traditional skills or trades that will surprise you by reminding you of just how resilient they are - of just how helpful they can be for someone in more trying times. Recently, one of my Wife’s sisters (who happens to be single parent of three children) decided to increase the exposuere of her home-based Children’s sewing class business by trying to promote it online. This is no big surprise, considering thast everyone and their dog is promoting their businesses and personal side projects on the net these days. Before this, her business was pretty much a supplement to her full-time job. She never had enough children enrolled in her sewing class at any one time to let her even consider cutting down on her regular job hours.
It seems however, that more people than she thought are using the net and the latest technology that it represents to find places to learn very traditional and handed down skills such as finding places for kids sewing classes in Edmonton ; Not long after she started promoting her business online in relevant places, such as sewing oriented websites and relevent forums, she started to get the inquiries coming in at a rate that she would not have dreamed of. In fact, she has received so many new students at this rate that she has already started to decline actual at home sewing commisions to instead spend time teaching her new and growing numbers of students! People looking online for something useful in the real world? who would have thunk it?
Of course considerations of reduced ‘real job’ hours is now not such a pie-in-the-sky kind of thing…
